July and August are great times to run the Slickrock Road (trail) on Highway 4 up out of Arnold, CA, near the top of the high Sierra Nevada Mountains (Ebbett's Pass), Lake Alpine area. It's a great trail that can be done in an easy 1/2 day with a long lunch and a stroll near the lake. The Motherlode Rockcrawlers do the Slickrock Trail at least once a year -- sometimes more.
